All Souls Procession at Wyoming Catholic College

Each year, on All Souls, the Wyoming Catholic College community celebrates a Requiem High Mass in the chapel and then, immediately afterwards, processes up the hill behind the church to the town cemetery to pray for the souls of the faithful departed.  The hill is steep and, on this particular day, it was muddy, and the narrow footbridge over the stream had to be carefully managed, but this silent climb has a way of preparing the soul for the prayers at the top.  We always hope for good weather, and fortunately, this year, we had a beautiful day.

Our simple order of prayers was as follows.

Ant. Requiem aeternam dona eis, Domine, et lux perpetua luceat eis.
Ps. 129, De profundis, chanted alternatim.
Ant. Requiem aeternam dona eis, Domine, et lux perpetua luceat eis.

Hymn. Languentibus in Purgatorio.

(Translation of the hymn)
1. Those languishing in Purgatory, who are purified in a fire beyond measure, and are tormented in grievous suffering, may your compassion relieve: O Mary!

2. You are the clear fountain that washes sins away, you assist all and reject none; extend your hand to the dead, who languish under continual pains: O Mary!

3. The dead piously sigh unto you, longing to be delivered from their pains, and to be present in your sight, and fully to enjoy eternal joys: O Mary!

4. And when the just examination shall take place, at the awesome judgment of God, entreat your Son judging, that our portion may be with the saints: O Mary!

Prayers for the Intentions of the Holy Father
Pater.  Ave.  Gloria.

Prayer for the Dead
O God, the Creator and Redeemer of all the faithful, hear our supplications and through Thy infinite love and mercy graciously grant to the souls of Thy servants departed the remission of all their sins, by which they may have deserved the severity of Thy justice and punishments in the world to come.  Vouchsafe to them grace and mercy before Thy tribunal, and let them attain to everlasting rest and happiness through the infinite merits of Jesus Christ, Thy Son, Our Lord, Who livest and reignest with Thee in the unity of the Holy Spirit, God, world without end.  Amen.
